School librarians do not have a specific curriculum within the Illinois Learning Standards.  Rather, school librarians integrate information literacy skills within the core subject curricula through collaboration with other teachers.  School librarians also take an active role in encouraging  reading both for learning and pleasure and an active role in technology integration.

Illinois School Librarians are required to base their programs on Linking for Learning: The Illinois School Library Media Program Guidelines.

School Librarians teach to the following standards:

Standards for the 21st Century Learner from the American Association of School Librarians

National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-s) from the International Society for Technology in Education

In addition, standards for Illinois School Librarians are currently in an exploration phase.

Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries (I-SAIL) from the Illinois School Library Media Association
