New MRC Furniture

Thank you to everyone who asked great questions about the PTO’s potential funding of some new furniture for the MRC. It is wonderful to work in a place where the people care so deeply about children and education. I am happy to report that the funding for MRC furniture was approved after some very informative discussion.

The new furniture will help The Lane move toward a Learning Commons philosophy for the MRC and support flexible learning at The Lane. If you are unsure what a Learning Commons philosophy entails, please look at the Learning Commons page on this website. Some final decisions are still to be made, but the new furniture should look something like this:

Sally Walker visit

On Monday, April 16th we had Sally Walker visiting. She spoke to all students in two assemblies. The students heard about word choice, revising, thinking up ideas, and much more. Unfortunately, I was too engrossed in the presentations to remember to take photographs, so we will have to settle for images of 2 of her 50+ books. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this educational and interesting visit.

More New Books

The PTO graciously voted to award the MRC $6,000.00 to update our collection. This photograph shows the 288 books and 25 playaways that were purchased with the funds. A great big THANK YOU to the PTO for these wonderful resources and to the volunteers who have been working extra shifts to get the books processed. We hope to make the new books available to the students on Tuesday.

New Books

I went to the Anderson’s Children’s Literature Breakfast yesterday. I chatted with authors, heard speeches by authors and purchased 26 new books for the MRC. Book trailers for a few of them are below.
